Lara's House is a place of sharing peace and love. Send us your blessing and prayer requests, here.
Welcome to
Lara's House -
a place of love and light for
young people with special needs
Lara’s House is a home of loving care and compassionate support, helping those who are served by it to live life to their fullest capacity. The peaceful, natural and healthy surroundings provide an enriching environment for all involved: the young women who live there, those participating in activities and programs, the staff and volunteers who serve them, their families and the community. It is our intent that Lara's House become a model of exemplary care and services that inspires and educates all who are touched by it. Lara's House is private-pay, and offers the highest quality amenities, services and benefits available.
Lara's House is the vision of the parents of
Lara Nelson, a young woman with multiple disabilities. It was created as a response to her need for stable, supportive long-term living and learning arrangements, and their desire to provide that. As professional educators and school administrators*, as well as loving, concerned parents, Lara's parents are uniquely qualified to make this vision a reality, for Lara and others who share that need.
*Lara's parents are the founders and former administrators of Brighton School, a highly acclaimed private school in Washington State.

The home on the property has been enlarged and
renovated to accommodate the residential needs of up to 6 young women, and day program and respite services for others with special needs. As of January 2011, there are 2 full time openings available. Those who would like more information about how
Lara's House might serve their family's needs are invited to
contact us directly through this website for more information. Please click

Lara's House provides a beautiful, healthy, loving, and stimulating home and learning center for the young women who live there and those who participate in activities. Caregivers and staff are carefully screened, highly trained and well compensated. Families are welcome to participate in activities and decision making as they desire. Because it is a private cooperative arrangement between the families participating, each person will receive care and services tailored to their particular physical, emotional, intellectual and vocational needs without becoming lost in a system of bureaucratic details.

The beauty of
Lara's House is that the benefits won't just bless the young women who will live there.
Day camps, evening and weekend events, and special activities are offered for all young people with special needs. And through affiliation with the
Lara Foundation,
parents, caregivers and families of any child with special needs will have access to
information, training, events, services and support, thereby spreading the good
throughout the community and beyond.
